Bryan Johnson's Red Light and Laser Cap Routine (2026)

By ProtocolPicksPublished

A dated, source-backed look at the light therapy in Bryan Johnson's published routine: morning bright light, the Blueprint 302 Laser Cap, and red and near-infrared panel sessions, with what each source does and does not say. Scope: This summarizes one person's self-reported routine and a seller's product page. It is not medical advice; talk to a qualified clinician before treating hair loss or using light devices.

What the sources show

Three kinds of light in one morning

Bryan Johnson's published routine uses light three ways: bright white light right after waking, a red laser cap on his scalp, and a red and near-infrared (NIR) panel after his workout and sauna. His January 2026 protocol lists the red and NIR panel twice a day for 6 minutes each, morning and evening.

Morning bright light: 10,000 lux

Within minutes of waking he sits in front of a 10,000 lux light to set his circadian rhythm. The January 2026 protocol lists 3-4 minutes; his April 2026 morning routine lists 6 minutes, done while wearing the laser cap. His sleep protocol also asks for morning light within 15-30 minutes of waking. The sources do not name the lamp brand; the lamp linked on this page is a common 10,000 lux model, not a confirmed match.

The Blueprint 302 Laser Cap: 6 minutes a day

His hair routine adds 6 minutes a day under a red laser cap, worn after applying Blueprint's Peptide Hair Serum to a dry scalp. Blueprint sells the cap for $999 and describes it as 302 laser diodes at 650 nm, FDA-cleared to regrow hair in androgenetic (pattern) hair loss for Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV, with visible results in about 4 months. The January 2026 protocol lists the cap at 655 nm; the product page says 650 nm.

Laser diodes versus LED caps

Blueprint's August 2026 article argues that many caps sold as laser therapy actually use LEDs, and that laser diodes deliver more light to the follicle. It suggests looking for wavelengths between 630 and 670 nm and covering the hairline, temples, crown and part. Blueprint sells a laser cap, so treat this as the seller's view. The laser cap listed on this page is a different brand for comparison, not the cap Bryan Johnson uses.

Red and near-infrared panel after the sauna

After a 20-minute sauna, his schedule has 6 minutes of red and NIR light therapy. Neither source names the panel, its wavelengths or its distance, so this page does not link one.

What the sources do not show

These pages report what Bryan Johnson does and what Blueprint says about its own device. They do not show that his full light routine works for anyone else, they do not give panel settings, and the laser cap's FDA clearance covers pattern hair loss on lighter skin types only. He describes his routine as always evolving and discourages copying it exactly.
